1992 in East Germany. The young Vietnamese woman MY CHÂU (25) gets into debt with the cigarette mafia in order to bring her daughter LY (8) to Berlin. In an act of bravado, she steals from her creditor. The consequences follow immediately and My Châu is forced to hide herself, her daughter and her friend VU in a village in Brandenburg with the help of the shady police interpreter JONAS.
